Medical Grade Protocol

Aftercare

Your artist did their part. Now the longevity and health of the piece rests in your hands. Follow these protocols strictly.

Classic Method

Phase I: The First 24 Hours

Leave your classic bandage in place overnight. The next morning, in the shower, wash your hands well and then remove the bandage.

Phase II: The Slime Removal

Using a gentle liquid soap, and ONLY your hands, wash the tattooed area until it no longer feels slimy. Removing this slime is the most important thing you can do.

Be gentle, and let the area air dry. Take care not to contaminate it with pet hair, dust, or food. Do not use toilet paper to dry your tattoo.

Phase III: Hydration

Once dry, apply a thin layer of the ointment provided. If you develop a reaction, these alternatives are acceptable:

Plain white lotion (pump bottle)
Shea butter
Coconut oil
Natural oil-based moisturizers
Hustle Butter
H2Ocean
Tattoo Goo

Apply 2 to 3 times daily for the next 3 to 5 days to prevent dryness.

Crucial: The Peeling Stage

DO NOT SCRATCH. DO NOT PICK. Picking opens you up to infections which move fast and are incredibly painful.

Second Skin

Duration & Fluids

Leave the bandage in place for a minimum of 24 hours up to a maximum of 6 days.

Expect to see a lot of murky sludge under the surface of the bandage; this is normal.

Physical Care

Resist the urge to poke or play with the bandage. Any breach of the seal compromises the protection. The area is splash-proof for showers, but not suitable for swimming.

The Removal Process

Remove in the shower. Pull the corner of the bandage flush to the skin (stretch, don't peel upwards) to avoid discomfort and skin damage.

Breach Protocol

Remove promptly if it leaks, the seal is broken, or if you develop new redness, blistering, or radiant heat. Contact the shop immediately.

Strict Prohibitions

No Submerging
No Excessive Sweating
No Sun Exposure
No Animal Contact

Basically, keep your tattoo clean until it is fully healed. You can never be too careful.
